CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- After feedback from health experts, students and staff, for the fall semester.

This school year will have in-person and remote learning options.

Safety measures like face coverings, limited gatherings, and deep cleanings will be implemented to protect those on campus.

After Thanksgiving Break, students will finish the last two weeks remotely to minimize risk from holiday travels.

The university says they're constantly monitoring guidelines to keep everyone safe.

"Of course there are those who really want online and we're trying to balance those needs and provide both opportunities. The other thing is that we know and research tells us that when you have students on campus, when you have them living in a residence hall, they tend to do better academically," said SIU Chief Communications Officer Rae Goldsmith.

The administration is currently working on a COVID-19 testing and tracking plan with the Jackson County Health Department.
