MARION (WSIL) -- COVID-19 will prevent a popular program from showcasing the dangers of distracted driving to area students, but those students won't completely miss out on the vital information. Williamson County's Traffic Safety Days are instead going virtual.

Local law enforcement agencies worked to record demonstrations Wednesday in Marion. The video will be edited and sent to Drivers Education teachers.

Local State Farm Agent Bill Ecker says the virtual event will be bigger than ever, reaching far more students than the annual four-day event can host.

"We always have high schools that wish to attend, but they are just too far away to be able to effectively get the students there to experience the day of Williamson County Traffic Safety Days," explains Ecker. "So having this filmed, this is going to give us the opportunity to involve high schools all over the region, all over the state, maybe all over the country."

Ecker says statistics show Traffic Safety Days makes a difference. Data collected by local law enforcers shows those who attend are safer drivers.
