CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (WSIL) � Search and rescue crews recovered a body after searching for a missing boater this weekend.
The Calloway County Fire Rescue stated the body was found at 2 p.m. on June 15, in the Kentucky Lake area.
Multiple local and state agencies resumed the search for a missing boater at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Fire officials said the missing boater was reported to have fallen overboard in the morning hours on June 14.
The Calloway County 911 Communications Center received a call on Sunday afternoon from a fisherman who reported seeing a body in the water near the area of Blood River.
Multiple local agencies responded to investigate and secured the area.
Fire officials said the body was discovered and identified as 51-year-old Steve Simpkins.
The body of Simpkins was then released to the Calloway County Coroner Ricky Garland.
“Our department extends our heartfelt condolences to the family & loved ones of Mr. Simpkins. While this is not the outcome any of us hoped for, we are grateful to have been able to bring some measure of closure to his family,� the Calloway County Fire Rescue stated.
