CHESTER (WSIL) -- Just before 7 a.m. Wednesday morning, Chester Police Department reported a three car accident had closed the bridge crossing the Mississippi River between Chester, Illinois and Perry County, Missouri.
The Missouri Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the crash.
Those planning to travel across the bridge this morning should plan to take an alternative route.
The nearest bridge to cross the Mississippi River are in Cape Girardeau, around 60 miles to the south.
Another option is a ferry that cross the river near Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, around 25 miles to the north.
