Community Health and Emergency Services in Carbondale hosted a one stop shop resource event today.
CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL)-- Community Health and Emergency Services in Carbondale hosted a one-stop-shop resource event on Friday. This took place at the Erma Hayes Center.
It's part of the month-long "Freedom to Freedom" Celebration Series Carbondale is hosting, which honors both Juneteenth and Independence Day.
Friday's event featured organizations representing physical and mental health, and education.
They also had interactive activities for the kids, as well as a mobile food market for people to get fresh produce.
The organization's CEO, Kanci Houston, says it's important for people to learn what help is available.
“People need to know what is available to them in the area, Houston says. “They need to know that CHESI will see patients regardless of their ability to pay for the service. We have a plethora of services that we offer. So, I think it's really good to show the community that we're here to be supportive and to find out what their needs are so that we can be a benefit.
Houston says having multiple resources in one place is an advantage for the community.
“The community should work together. You know, if there's something that CHESI can't do, but we have a friend who can help you, it's good to be able to pull that together in a coalition so that we ensure that regardless of the need, there's somebody there that can help, Houston said.
There will be more events like this coming up for the Freedom to Freedom Celebration Series.
They will all be free to the public.Â
