CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- City leaders announced safe test results of the water after a water main break on Monday.

The precautionary boil water advisory put in place on December 9, has now been lifted after the test results did not show any contaminants.

Those in Cape Girardeau are now able to go back to drinking the city's water without boiling it before consumption.

City officials stated a large pipe burst from the water treatment plant on the morning of December 9. Afterwards, the boil water advisory was put in place and the pipe was repaired by the afternoon hours.

“We are very glad that the crews got the water main repaired quickly, said Mayor Stacy Kinder. “We’re thankful for the boots on the ground, the staff in the offices taking customer calls, and the whole team.
