CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Police in Carbondale are investigating after reports of shots fired near the SIU Campus.
On Wednesday just after 8:30 p.m. Carbondale police officers responded to the 500 and 600 blocks of South Oakland Avenue to reports of shots fired.Ìý
Officers from the SIU Police Department located a vehicle abandoned in a parking lot near the intersection of Douglas Drive and Lincoln which had been struck by gunfire.Ìý
A black man wearing a yellow and orange shirt and a black man in a white t-shirt and jeans were seen exiting the vehicle and leaving the area in another unidentified vehicle. Officers later recovered two handguns in the 1000 block of South Oakland Avenue. Ìý
Police learned passengers in two separate vehicles, including the recovered vehicle, fired shots at one another.
There were no reports of injuries as a result of the incident. ÌýThe investigation is currently active and ongoing. Ìý
