MURRAY, Ky. (WSIL) -- A man was arrested by police twice within a three-day period after he was accused of being intoxicated while riding a mule and refused to stop for officers.

According to the Murray Police Department, officers responded to a local alcohol business at 9:09 p.m. on December 7, in regards to a person being unruly and refusing to leave.

After officers arrived, police said Jonathan Mason, 39 of Murray, was under the influence of alcohol.

Police said Mason rode a mule to the alcohol establishment. They also said he refused to stop when officers ordered him to.

Witnesses saw Mason whip the mule an "unnecessary amount" of times, along with other ways of mistreating the animal, at another establishment, police said in a report.

Mason was then arrested and taken to the Calloway County Jail. The Murray Police Department said Mason was cited with the following...

• Criminal Trespassing 3rd Degree
• Resisting Arrest
• Cruelty to Animals 2nd Degree

The mule was then stabled.

Two days later, on December 9, at 12:51 p.m., officers responded to another report of a man who may be intoxicated and riding a mule down a road, Murray police stated.

Police said Mason was found on the mule, refused to stop for police and then fled from officers while he was still on the mule going down the road.

Mason was caught and then arrested and taken to the Calloway County Jail.
