Victim's Name Released in Carbondale Homicide Investigation

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Police have released the victim's name in a deadly stabbing investigation from over the weekend.

According to information released by the Carbondale Police Department, officers learned of the incident at 2:49 a.m. on Saturday, July 20. Reports indicated that the stabbing occurred alongside a vehicle theft in the 500-block of E. Sycamore Street. 

Investigators said the victim had been driven to an emergency room in another person's car at the time the department learned of the incident. Since learning of the situation, police earlier said the victim died from the stab wounds.

Police identified the victim as Traeshonne D. Blythe, 31 of Carbondale.

Police say they spoke to the person who reported the incident. This person initially reported they were shot during the incident, but did not believe the wound was life-threatening. Since then, police said the investigation revealed no one was a victim of a gunshot wound.

Investigators said in an earlier report, all the people involved knew each other prior to the situation.

Officials say the investigation remains open. The police are receiving help from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the Jackson County Coroner's Office and the Jackson County States Attorney's Office.
