WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) -- A traffic stop in Marion led to the arrest of a passenger on drug-related charges early on April 23, 2025, in Marion.
The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said their deputies stopped a vehicle near Future Street and East College Street for traffic and equipment violations. During the stop, authorities reported K9 "Roxy" alerted them to the presence of illegal narcotics.
The sheriff's office said deputies discovered a purse containing suspected psilocybin mushrooms and several bags of substances, which tested positive for methamphetamine and cocaine. The sheriff's office then said the passenger, Hattie S. Cooley, admitted the purse was hers and it was revealed she had cocaine hidden in her bra, which was later found from the help of a female deputy.
Cooley was charged with methamphetamine possession and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, including cocaine.
She was taken to the Williamson County Jail. The driver was cited and released at the scene.
