SIU ENROLLMENT

CARBONDALE (WSIL) Leaders at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) have announced three finalists for the position of chancellor.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, interviews with the three candidates will be conducted remotely.

“Early in the pandemic, we were planning a blend of small group, face-to-face interviews and virtual interviews, explained SIU System President Dan Mahony said. “We regrouped when the state’s stay-at-home order was put in place. We evaluated postponing interviews until late summer or fall, but that put us at risk of losing candidates and missing important voices in the discussion. An entirely virtual interview process is not ideal, but it moves the search forward and provides greater clarity around the timeline for installing a new chancellor.

The three candidates are:

  • Susan R. Stapleton, special assistant to the provost at Western Michigan University
  • Austin A. Lane, former president of Texas Southern University
  • Kenneth R. Evans, president of Lamar University

Information about each of the finalists can be found on SIUC's .

According to the university, each candidate will hold a public forum that will be available via Zoom and also posted on the website.

The public forums will each be 9 a.m. - 10 a.m. on:

  • April 17: Susan R. Stapleton
  • April 21: Austin A. Lane
  • April 23: Kenneth R. Evans

Details about accessing the open forums will be posted at least two days before each forum. There will also be an online form to provide confidential feedback on each candidate.

The person selected will replace John Dunn who has served as interim chancellor since January 2019.

Mahoney hopes to have a new chancellor in place July 1.
