Cobden teacher a finalist for Golden Apple Teaching Award

COBDEN, Ill. (WSIL) -- A Cobden educator is a finalist for a Golden Apple Teaching Award.

Karen Engelmann is a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Cobden Jr./Sr. High School. She was named as one of 30 finalists for the Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching.聽

Engelmann has been an educator for roughly 15 years. She teaches students about how to prepare recipes from various cultures in her Foods class. She is responsible for educating students and broadening their understanding of the different communities.

Engelmann also founded the Future Teachers program. This program is designed to mentor young educators which strengthens the pipeline for educators in southern Illinois.
