HERRIN (WSIL)---When it's cold outside, the last thing you want to worry about is what happens if your heater stops working.
But the best advice on how to stay warm these chilly fall nights, is to have check ups done twice a year.
The service manager at Pass One Hour Heating and Air, Ryan Williams, said air conditioners and furnaces are like cars, they need maintenance to run properly.
Checking thermostat batteries and changing your filter can also help homeowners during cold mornings and warm afternoons.
But to save money and to stay comfortable, calling for service before a break down is your best option.
"Very inconvenient typically if its 110 degrees or -10 degrees outside, we're pretty busy. We're gonna get to you as fast as we possibly can, but if you can take care of that on a 75 degree day where we can replace the exact same part is obviously much more convenient for you, and tends to cost a little bit less," said Williams.
Williams added that by doing biannual maintenance, you can prevent 85% of breakdowns, increase efficiencies, and keep your utility costs as low as possible.
