GALATIA (WSIL) -- A food giveaway Wednesday in Galatia, helped feed hundreds of local families.

Greater Galatia Food Pantry gave away 560 "Farmers to Family" boxes with produce, dairy, and meat products.

Galatia firefighters helped hand out the boxes and the Mayor helped unload the boxes from the truck with his tractor.

Organizers say they are there to help anyone in need.

"These are crucial to a lot of families, they depend on these boxes, and some don't have access to them. So that's what we're trying to do today just show people that we're here and we want to help and they can count on us," said Misty Biggs, Director of Greater Galatia Food Pantry.

Other food upcoming food distributions in our area include one this Friday at Cannon Park in Carterville. Also on Friday, a food giveaway will be held at the Banterra Center at SIU in Carbondale.
