* WHAT...Daily Heat index values up to 106.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures and high humidity
may cause heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Giant City Park trail made more accessible for people with disabilities

MAKANDA, IL (WSIL) -- The Post Oak Trail at Giant City State Park is now open, and it has been made accessible for people with disabilities.

The trail underwent several months of upgrades to make it more accommodating. The trail winds through the shaded bluff top forest, and it features benches and an overlook deck.

Projects planned for the future include adding a boardwalk and easy to access parking.
