Anna, IL to boost accessibility with $2.1M transportation grant

ANNA, Ill. (WSIL) -- The City of Anna announced it received $2,136,750 from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program for a new multiuse path project along East Vienna Street.

“We’re pleased to receive this money from ITEP and excited to put these dollars to work in our community,� said City Administrator Dori Bigler. “The multi-use path to Walmart will improve accessibility while increasing safety for residents and visitors alike.�

The path will extend from the intersection of Springfield Avenue and East Vienna Street to Walmart. Anna is among 66 projects statewide receiving funding, with a total of $139.2 million awarded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

“Under the leadership of Gov. Pritzker, IDOT is committed to working with communities to improve local mobility options while strengthening the state’s overall transportation network,� said Acting Illinois Transportation Secretary Gia Biagi.  “We’re proud to support these efforts by our local partners that create new opportunities to connect people with the important places in their lives.�

The ITEP awards, made possible by federal and state funds, aim to enhance bike and pedestrian travel and promote alternative transportation options within communities.
