CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Many locals in Carbondale gathered at the Carbondale Police Department for their open house on Saturday.
The Carbondale Police Department held their annual open house for those who were interested to learn more about what they do.
Dozens came out to see what the event was all about. Many were able to tour the facility and talk to members of various sections of the department. Deputy Chief Anthony Williams tells us the goal of this event.
"Certainly over the years, a lot people have questions in terms of who the police are," said Deputy Chief Williams. "I think we have been working hard over the past several years to try to be transparent. We work for the people. The people provide tax dollars for us to do our job," Deputy Chief Williams said. "The people provide the equipment that we have and the building that we are in, so we just want to make sure people see who we are, what we are doing and give people the opportunity to ask us questions about what we do day to day."
This event was open to the public. If you missed it, you can call the Carbondale Police Department at 618-457-3200.
