MARION, Ill (WSIL) -- Worth the Risk will be hosting its first 5K this Saturday, September 21, 2024 in Harry L. Crisp Sports Complex.
Worth the Risk is a non-profit founded in 2019. The organization teaches and encourages women to live a life of purpose.
We talked with Casey Rolape who is the Founder and President of Worth the Risk.
"The purpose of the event is to continue to be able to step into the things that God is asking for us to do," Rolape said. "So, we are looking to secure funds to continue to do workshops. Our rooted together events continue to put out free resources to the community so again we can encourage women to really step boldly into the things God has for them."
During the 5K event, there will also be a food truck, live music and plenty of activities for families.
Rolape explains why they chose to host a 5K.
"We we wanted to create something that was outside and that is fun that people can bring their family to," Rolape added. "I know that 5K isn't something that people initially think, 'oh that's a fun family event'; but we are adding other components individuals that want to run can also bring their kids to do the kid run to do the activities to do the different fun things we have set up for the day."
Check in time for the event will be at 3 p.m.
There is also a kid run at 4 p.m. with the official 5K starting at 4:30 p.m.
