One dead after vehicle runs off road and hits tree in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. -- An Indiana man is dead after a car he was driving runs off the road and hits a tree Monday morning.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said they had deputies respond to State Highway 148 and Renfro Lake Road for a vehicle crash at 12:52 a.m. on Monday.

Evidence collected at the scene indicated the vehicle was going north on Highway 148 when it was approaching Renfro Lake Road. The vehicle then traveled off the road and flipped over several times before hitting a tree.

The sheriff's office said the driver was Michael R. Ford, 55 of Evansville, Ind. Ford was then taken to the Herrin Hospital by AMR Ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash. Other agencies assisting in the crash was the Zeigler Police Department, Zeigler Fire Department, Christopher Police Department and the Christopher Fire Department.
