* WHAT...Peak heat index values up to near 105.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ this evening.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged hot temperatures and high humidity may cause
heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Pedestrian vs train incident reported in Benton; officials urge public to avoid area

BENTON, Ill. (WSIL) -- Authorities in Franklin County are informing motorists of a traffic incident involving a pedestrian and a train in Benton on Thursday.

The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency alerted the public of the incident at 3:42 p.m. on June 26.

County officials said the incident happened at State Highway 14 and Bailey Lane in Benton, Illinois. The crossing at this intersection will be blocked for some time as emergency workers are on scene.

Authorities are informing the public to avoid the area and take an alternate route of travel.
