Scaffolding collapse in Mt. Vernon leaves two dangling 150 feet up

MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) -- The Mt. Vernon Fire Department responded to a high-angle rescue at a water tower on Saturday.

According to the Mt. Vernon Fire Department, after emergency crews arrived, they discovered two people hanging 135 to 150 feet above ground after a scaffolding collapse caused by equipment which malfunction.

The Mt. Vernon Fire Department initiated a high-angle technical rescue, requesting help from the MABAS Division 45/68 Technical Rescue Team.

Workers used tag lines to stabilize the scaffolding, allowing them to repair the motor and descend safely.

The incident is under investigation to determine further details about the individuals and the cause of the malfunction. The Mt. Vernon Fire Department expressed gratitude to mutual aid partners and praised the technical rescue teams for their professionalism.
