ZEIGLER, Ill. -- Local fire departments in southern Illinois alerted the public not to burn anything for the next two days.
The Zeigler Fire Department said they are encouraging the public not to burn anything on Monday and Tuesday, in an effort to keep the fire risk down.
"The ground may be wet, but foliage is dry, and with the winds today, fire could spread rapidly," the City of Zeigler Fire Department said in a post on their Facebook Page.
They also mentioned careless burning could lead to destroyed homes and property.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said fire departments throughout the county have been very active on Monday as well.
A wind advisory is in place for the area as well.
A burn ban has been put in place for Franklin County until further notice, urging people not to burn as well.
