Two underage teens face charges after sheriff's office said they were pulled over in a stolen vehicle

JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. (WSIL) -- Two underage teenagers are facing charges after a local sheriff's office said they were in a stolen vehicle.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said on October 17, at 11:29 p.m., deputies were patrolling north of the Johnston City area and checked the registration on a vehicle. 

The sheriff's office said this vehicle was preciously reported stolen in Herrin.

At this time, deputies followed the vehicle they said was stolen along Highway 37. When more law enforcement arrived, they then pulled over the vehicle on Cleveland Street in West Frankfort.

Authorities said there was a 14-year-old female and a 15-year-old male inside the vehicle.

Both juveniles were taken into custody and later released to their parents.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office detailed the following citations for the teenagers.

The 14 year old female was cited for the following:

  • Possession Stolen Vehicle
  • No Valid Driver’s License
  • Criminal Damage to Property

The 15 year old male was cited for the following:

  • Possession Stolen Vehicle
  • Criminal Damage to Property

Both juveniles were released to their parents.

Assisting the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office was the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Herrin Police Department, Johnston City Police Department, West Frankfort Police Department, and Williamson County State’s Attorney Ted Hampson.
