Williamson County Sheriff's Office investigates infant death

COLP, Ill. (WSIL) -- Authorities are investigating a child death in Colp on Monday.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a 911 call to a home in Colp on February 17, at 8:29 a.m.

The sheriff's office said they responded to an unresponsive child who was four days old.

The child was taken by emergency medical workers to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

“The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of the Illinois Child Death Investigations Task Force. This is a standard protocol used in cases involving the death of a child�, stated Sheriff Jeff Diederich.

Investigators were still at the home as of 11:25 a.m. on Monday. The investigation is ongoing.
