McDonald’s CEO: Bigger burgers are coming

CHICAGO, Ill. -- McDonald's may soon launch a $5 value meal.

The report comes amid intense inflation throughout the U.S. Higher fast-food costs have driven a number of customers away from McDonald's and other fast-food restaurants.

According to a report from ABC News, the average price of a quarter pounder throughout the country has over doubled in the last few years. Customers cite this as a reason to pull away from the double arches when looking for lunch.

McDonald's executives are considering the value meal to compete with its competitors, such as Wendy's and Burger King.

The decision to introduce the meal comes down to individual franchise owners. The owners will vote throughout the US to decide if the company would lose too much money from the offering.

McDonald's has not released an official statement on the deal but did tell ABC News it is working with local franchise owners to set local prices.
