CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- A 19-year-old is in custody facing several charges of burglary, robbery and armed criminal action, in a multiple-victim investigation where the suspect was denied money after demanding it at gunpoint.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department said on October 29, officers responded to the 400-block of Sheridan Drive for a weapons violation report.

Once they got there, officers talked with a victim who said a male tried to open the back door of the home. Police said he was identified as Shawntario Evans, 19 of Kennett. When the victim went to the back door, the suspect ran away.

Police said they talked with another victim in the same block who said the suspect allegedly entered a front door of a home, pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money from them.

Police said the victim told the suspect they didn't have any money and the suspect then ran from the home.

In addition to the two previous victims, officers talked with another victim in the 2100-block of William where the suspect description matched the suspect in the Sheridan Drive burglary incidents.

Police said the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at a victim there also and demanded money. The victim there also refused to give anything to him and the suspect ran away again.

Officers found Evans in the 2100-block of William who matched the description given by the victims. Evans ran through a parking lot and fled from officers.

After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to take him into custody.

Cape Girardeau police also said they found a loaded gun in Evan's possession.

Evans faces several felony charges including burglary, three counts of armed criminal action, two counts of attempted robbery and resisting arrest.

Evans is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
