6 dead in separate crashes, all within 15-hour-period across Missouri

SEDALIA, Mo. -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reporting six separate crashes which resulted in six deaths across various across the state of Missouri recently.

The six deadly crashes all happened within a 15-hour time frame of each other starting from Sunday afternoon on October 22, through Monday morning on October 23.

The first crash occurred at 4:33 p.m. on Sunday in Pettis County. State police said five people were riding in a 2022 Canam UTV when it overturned making a turn. 

One adult and four children were in the crash and all from Sedalia, Mo. One child was pronounced dead while the other children had minor injuries.

Three hours later, state police responded to I-270 in St. Louis County where a 2016 Honda Accord was involved in a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash.

State police said a pedestrian was walking in lane two on I-270 when the Honda Accord tried to swerve to avoid hitting the pedestrian, however, the front left portion of the vehicle struck the pedestrian, identified as Dominique Williams, 38 of St. Louis. 

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

The next and third deadly crash within this 15-hour stretch was 17 minutes later in Jefferson County, Mo. 

State troopers responded to Highway 61 at 7:50 p.m. on Sunday where a 1999 Dodge Ram travelled off the road and overturned.

The driver was identified as 63-year-old Mark Edwards of Festus. Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, a fourth crash happened in Missouri. Missouri State Highway Patrol said it happened along Route CC about seven miles west of Fair Grove in Greene County.

State police said Cary Cave, 58 of Fair Grove, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when it traveled off the road and hit the ground and ejected the driver.

Cave was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday morning at 5:53 a.m., a crash occurred along Highway 47 south of Prairie View Road in Warren County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded and said Jamie Whiteman, 38 of Hawk Point, Mo. was driving a 2012 Chevrolet when it went off the road, hit a culvert and then struck a tree.

Whitman died of injuries sustained in the crash.

The sixth crash in the 15-hour time period happened at 7 a.m. in Oregon County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a three-vehicle collision occurred along US 63 about two miles north of Thayer.

29-year-old Joshua Parker of Calico Rock, Ark., was driving a 2011 GMC Express Van when he was stopped in traffic making a left turn. Police said a 2017 Ford Explorer, driven by Keith Price, 32 of Thayer, hit Parker's vehicle from behind. Parker's vehicle was then knocked into the path of a 2016 Freightliner Tractor Trailer, driven by 47-year-old Shaun Hendrix of West Plains.

Parker died from his injuries. Price had moderate injuries while Hendrix has serious injuries.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports there have been 671 death related crashes in 2023 as of October 23.
