...HEAT ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Daily Heat index values up to 106.

* WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures and high humidity
may cause heat illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Death investigation underway in southeast Missouri, police seek info

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. (WSIL) -- Authorities are investigating a death which occurred near the corner of 5th and Warren Streets early Sunday morning.

The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Portageville Police Department in this investigation.

The sheriff's office said officers found an individual deceased in the street during the early morning hours of June 22.

The SEMO Major Case Squad has been activated to assist with the investigation.

"If you have information about this incident, please contact the Portageville Police Department at (573)379-5500 or the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office at (573)748-2516," said Sheriff Joey Higgerson.

This investigation is ongoing, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.
