One dead, one in custody after shooting in southeast Missouri

BUTLER COUNTY, Mo. -- Authorities are investigating a shooting which left one person dead in the eastern part of Butler County on Tuesday evening.

Deputies with the Butler County Sheriff's Office responded to a home in the 600-block of Butler County Road 544 at 5:30 p.m.

The sheriff's office said one person died after a shooting took place, stemming from a family dispute.

On Wednesday, Butler County Coroner Jim Akers said the victim's name is Matthew Wilkerson. mid 40's of Dudley, Missouri.

Akers said the cause of death is multiple gun shot wounds. An autopsy for Wilkerson is scheduled for Thursday in Farmington.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs said one person is in custody awaiting formal charges.
