K9 Officer Found Dead in Southeast Missouri, Investigation Ongoing

DEXTER, Mo. -- A K9 officer's death is under investigation after he was found dead.

The Dexter Police Department said the incident happened on February 18, when Dexter Police Department's K9 "Apollo" was found dead inside his kennel.

The next day on February 19, a necropsy was performed on Apollo at the Animal Health Center in Dexter.

Both the Dexter Police Department and the Stoddard County Sheriff's Office requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control to investigate the death.

The investigation is ongoing.
