UPDATED 9:45 a.m. Friday, MAY 15, 2020
Illinois State Police say one lane has been reopened to traffic.
Troopers identified the driver as 62-year-old Obbie Shackleford from Dallas, TX.
Shackleford was traveling eastbound on Interstate 24 at milepost 25 where he fell asleep around 6:00 Friday morning.Â
When he realized he was drifting off the roadway, he overcorrected, causing the semi to overturn.Â
IDOT is still on scene assisting with traffic control while Troopers investigate and facilitate scene clean-up.Â
ORIGINAL STORY
JOHNSON COUNTY (WSIL) -- Eastbound I-24 is closed at mile marker 24.5 due to an overturned semi. That's between the Vienna exit and the New Columbia/Bay City near the Massac and Johnson County line.
The big rig is blocking both lanes and all traffic is being diverted off the interstate at Vienna. According to Illinois State Police, the driver of the semi was not injured and the truck was hauling a non-hazardous load.
There are no estimates at this time on when the interstate may reopen.
