PADUCAH WATER TOWER

PADUCAH (WSIL)---The City of Paducah celebrates the completion of the "United We Stand" water tower mural.

The mural was created in response to the large Confederate flag on private property, next to I-24 on the way into Paducah.

City officials wanted to counter any negative message brought by the flag by showing a message of unity.

Paducah mayor George Bray said while it's the right of the property owners to display the flag, he asked for it to be moved to a more inconspicuous location.

"That Confederate flag does not speak for our community. While they have every right to fly it, it does not speak for our community. What speaks for our community is the fact that we are progressive and we are moving forward and we are working to achieve great things in the future," said Bray.

The mural was funded completely by private donations.
