Kyle says crews were able to contain the fire to the northside of the building, which houses the company's administrative offices, by around 10 p.m. One unit stayed on scene overnight to observe any hot spots.

Fire crews invited an engineer Tuesday morning to survey the building's condition.

"The area that we're most concerned about... is the area that is directly unstable," Kyle said, referring to the northside of the building.

Around the time the fire started, Paducah resident Vick Patel was out flying his drone on the Ohio River. Patel told News 3 he was taking footage of the sunset when he noticed smoke and heard sirens from about a mile away.

"I've never seen the smoke that big," Patel said. "I just got really curious in seeing what's going on there."

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted firefighters by closing off Third Street in front of the building to traffic in the wake of the fire. The road will remain closed until Wednesday, June 2 at 6 p.m.

The company employs about 80 people, including welders, mechanics and machinists according to its . The owners did not wish to release a statement at this time.

Kyle says it's up to the owners to decide if anything from the building can be salvaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
