MARION (WSIL) -- The raised more than $11,000 with last Friday's Red Kettle Blitz.

The event was to raise money to make up a $28,000 shortage from the holiday Red Kettle campaign.

Bell ringers were located at spots across Jackson and Williamson counties. Banterra Bank and Pepsi partnered with the drive.

Coordinator Cami Horn says she's thankful for the strong community response.

"Last year, I think the total rolled in about $4,500. So with the support of the businesses, in addition to the bell ringing, to be over $11,000 for one day, is wonderful. We're really pleased with that," she said.

Horn says The Salvation Army is hosting a meeting next month to organize another fundraiser and recruit new members.
