PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) The National Weather Service sent out a special weather statement on Saturday after reports of funnel clouds across the area.

Weather officials said these funnels are developing underneath a few showers. They said underneath these showers there could develop some spinning columns of air, which look like tornadoes and may continue to develop.

Officials say the funnels rarely touch the ground and are usually are very brief and most likely won’t cause any damage.

“These funnels are due to cooler air aloft...warm moist air near the ground...and are usually in association with a strong area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Due to little or no wind shear...they are usually weak and very brief, officials with the National Weather Service stated.
