7 earthquakes hit region on Monday morning, one felt 150 miles away, USGS reports

MARSTON, Mo. (WSIL) -- A total of seven earthquakes have hit the area on Monday morning.

The United State Geological Survey (USGS) recorded six quakes hitting in southeast Missouri and another one hitting in Lake County, Tennessee.

The quakes range from a 1.8 magnitude to a 3.0 magnitude.

Below is a list of the earthquakes in order of time according to the USGS...

December 9, 12:50 a.m.

  • Magnitude 2.0
  • Roughly 4 miles east-southeast of Hayward, Missouri.
  • Depth is 7.5 miles

December 9, 12:27 a.m.

  • Magnitude 3.0
  • 2.5 miles west of Howardville
  • Depth is 5 miles
  • This earthquake had six people who claimed they felt shaking. Two people from Lilbourn, one from Marston, one from Portageville, one from Macedonia and another from Evansville, Indiana, which is roughly 150 miles away.

December 9, 4:27 a.m.

  • Magnitude 2.1
  • 2.5 miles west of Howardville
  • Depth is 5 miles

December 9, 5:31 a.m.

  • Magnitude 1.8
  • 1 mile south-southwest of Ridgely, Tennessee
  • Depth is 5 miles

December 9, 6:25 a.m.

  • Magnitude 1.9
  • 2.5 miles west-southwest of Howardville
  • Depth is near 5 miles

December 9, 7:30 a.m.

  • Magnitude 2.2
  • Less than 1 miles north of Marston
  • Depth is 5 miles

December 9, 8:50 a.m.

  • Magnitude 2.2
  • 5 miles east-southeast of Matthews, Missouri
  • Depth is 12 miles
