Carbondale road construction

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Carbondale government provided the community with an update on the ongoing road construction happening around the city.

A number of reworkings are underway for roads by civil engineers as part of the city's Community Investment Program (CIP). These projects are resurfacing the road's asphalts and already updated the coinciding sidewalks for ADA standards. The roads included are:

  • Giant City (Grand-Walnut)
  • Sunny Acres (Giant City-Kroger)
  • Cedarview (E. Main-Lynda)

In addition to the road projects, the city has received several main line water replacements. These include:

  • Hunt Road -- updated Crab Orchard water district water main at multiple houses
  • Kelly Rae -- new water main connecting to a new development
  • Normal -- water main replaced, updating connection to SIU water network (concrete resurfacing still underway)

The city says more projects, including resurfacing and bridge work, are still in the planning phase.

"We are so grateful to have such awesome staff to help get these projects from our CIP checked off and for to help," said the city's Facebook page.

The government reminds drivers to use patience when driving through these areas.
