Dorena-Hickman Ferry

PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Dorena-Hickman Ferry is back in operation after two days of closures.

The closures came as a result of low water levels in the Mississippi River. On Thursday, KYTC District 1 announced the river was sitting at almost 21 feet, well above the required 14 feet for ferry operation.

Officials are forecasting the river should remain above the required marking past January 25 but will keep an eye on winds this weekend as they could become too strong for operation.

The ferry will operate on its normal winter schedule today. The final boats will depart from Kentucky at 4:15 p.m. and Missouri at 4:30 p.m.
