On January 15, the FDA Red Dye No. 3 requiring companies to stop its use by 2027. Numerous studies have shown a connection between the dye and cancer in animals when ingested. The FDA banned the use of Red Dye Number 3 in in 1990. Now, the FDA is applying it to food and drinks.

Maggie McGuire is a Registered Dietitian at SIH. She says she hopes this encourages people to reflect on what they're eating.

"I think it is a really good opportunity for the community for consumers in general to take a look at what they are putting in their bodies," said McGuire. "What this ban the type of foods and food products that contain Red Dye No.3 are actually products that dietitians and other qualified health professionals recommend people consume less of anyway."

McGuire also suggests you look at the label on your food. Companies are required to display the nutritional information so you're fully informed on what you're eating.
