METROPOLIS, Ill. -- A former landmark of Metropolis will soon ring again. 

The East End Fire Station bell is getting a facelift thanks to donations from fire officials.

The Metropolis Fire Department took to  to announce the bell was in transit to the restoration site. 

"We all fully believed in the restoration and its ultimate display at our fire station alongside our antique American LaFrance fire engine," wrote the department. 

Funds for the project came from donations from the city's firefighters. The total amount raised for this project totals over $4,000.

The bell has a rich history in Metropolis. The bell rang over the East End Fire station as far back as 1930 until the station closed several decades later.
