Water Tower destruction

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Crews took down the water tower at the Paducah site of the Department of Energy on Friday.

The NWS in Paducah conducted a controlled demolition of its water tower on Friday.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the process ran smoothly and safely. Explosives took the tower down, and heavy equipment operators have begun to segment the debris into smaller pieces to bring off site.

The area is now clear and crews say the project went off as planned.

The DOE's Deactivation and Remediation contractor worked with the Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership (FRNP) on the project. Neighbors to the plant and local emergency responders were notified prior to the explosions.
