PADUCAH, Ky. -- Paducah locals may hear loud explosions on Friday afternoon coming from the Department of Energy Paducah Site.

The DOE in Paducah will restrict access to its site Friday, May 31 to allow crews to take down the water tower on its land. The roughly 300-ft tower will be dismantled using a series of controlled explosives.

Officials with the DOE Paducah Site say only essential workers will be allowed on the land Friday. This is to keep the site as safe as possible during the explosions.

Neighboring properties have been notified of the plans, and the site's Emergency Management Office has prepared emergency organizations.
