CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University in Carbondale will host a discussion on journalism with an NPR podcaster.聽
Illinois-native Scott Simon is set to visit the school's Paul Simon Public Policy Institute on Wednesday before his public discussion in the Student Center Ballroom B at 6:00 p.m. Simon will speak with Institute Director John Shaw about Simon's journalism career and the challenges in the field today.
Simon will meet attendees prior to the event in the university's John W. Corker Lounge at 5:00 p.m.聽
鈥淪cott Simon has had a remarkably wide-ranging and interesting career, with striking successes as a broadcast journalist and essay and book writer. He has reported from around the world but has also retained a deep interest in, and affection for, Illinois,鈥� Shaw said.
Simon is best known for his hosting gig on NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday and morning podcast, Up First. Over his four-decade career at NPR, Simon has broadcasted in all U.S. states and five continents. He has also written dozens of books, hosted for PBS and BBC, guest-starred on ESPN, and written for The New York Times, among others.聽
