Songwriters capture Marion Veteran experiences

MARION, Ill. -- Veterans will have their stories told through song this weekend in Marion.

The organization connected four local veterans with songwriters on Thursday night. These vets will spend Friday telling the songwriters their stories which the writers will then turn into songs. The songwriters will perform their creations in a special concert at the Marion Town Square on Saturday night.

"To hear the ways these sessions have impacted not only the singers but the veterans and their families alive [is] beyond inspiring," said a photographer from Thursday's kickoff event. 

Residents are invited to the on Friday night for an open mic performance. The songwriters are expected to show off their talents as a preview for what is to come on Saturday. 

The Saturday concert will start at 6:30 p.m. More information is available on the on Facebook.
