State highway reopens in Franklin County after lengthy closure

UPDATE -- State Highway 14 has reopened after a lengthy closure Wednesday morning. 

The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency alerted the public of the reopening at 10:40 a.m. 

At this time, it remains unclear why the road closed. News 3 reporters remain at the scene for investigation. 

ORIGINAL STORY -- 7:15 a.m. -- BUCKNER, Ill. -- Officials have shut down State Highway 14 stretching from Buckner to Christopher on Wednesday morning.

The Franklin County Emergency Agency sent an alert just after 7:00 a.m. to alert residents of the closure. The alert stated this was a 'traffic alert' and traffic was being diverted off State Highway 14 into Buckner.

A News 3 crew was on scene after the road closure took place. Multiple law enforcement vehicles had the roadway shut down. 

The Franklin County Coroner was also on scene. He said this is very early in the investigation.

Drivers have been asked to fully avoid the area and find detours for travel.
