Two sought, one injured after shots fired call in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, Ill. -- Authorities are looking for two people in a shots fired investigation and after a person was injured from a gunshot in Mt. Vernon on Thursday.

The Mount Vernon Police Department said the incident happened on Thursday evening at 7:44 p.m. Police went out to the parking lot behind the Time Square Mall at 3917 Broadway where they were alerted about a some gunshots that were fired.

Shortly after that, police were notified of an 18-year-old victim who had been shot and now is at a local hospital.

The Mount Vernon Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Office are now working the case and went to the mall and the hospital.

The victim in the hospital was then air lifted to a regional hospital but is in stable condition.

Deputies and officers are interviewing witnesses and are investigating.

They did say they are looking for two persons of interest.
