CARTERVILLE, Ill. (WSIL) � The tornado which hit the southern Williamson County area on May 16, has been upgraded to an EF-4.
The National Weather Service upgraded the tornado on Sunday, stating the peak winds hit 190 mph. The length of the tornado was 16.57 miles long with a maximum width of 575 mph.
Weather officials said this was the strongest tornado which hit the region since the Mayfield EF-4 tornado on December 10, 2021.
Officials said this tornado is responsible for seven people injured.
