MARION, IL (WSIL) -- The game of tennis is on the rise in our region.
Joe Pearce has had a hand in that growth for Southern Illinois.
Annual Pearce tennis camp help youth learn tennis & life skills
The annual Pearce Juniors Tennis Camp hit a record attendance this year. Over 100 campers ages 5 to 18 are learning from Pearce.
The camp teaches the game of tennis from beginners to advanced high school teens. Pearce hopes to see a future Wimbledon champion come out of our area.
Pearce tells his campers they always need to be smiling when they play; the game of tennis is intended to be fun.
"Have a good attitude. No matter if you hit a good ball or you hit one off the frame, it's about smiling and knowing that you just do your best," said Pearce. "I have always told the kids do their best and nobody can ask more than that. Really, we are teaching them the game of life."
That is great advice not just in sports, but in life. The camp in Marion ends on Friday.
