CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- On Wednesday, the IHSAA announced there will be high school sports for the 2020-21 school. We caught up with Carbondale Head Football Coach Bryan Lee to get his reaction to the announcement.

"The reaction was I was just overjoyed," Lee said. "We saw this coming and it was awful spring sports lost their season so in our minds we were thinking surely by the time the fall hits this will be a non-issue but there is a whole lot more unknown than there is known but I will tell you know sitting here on Thursday knowing there is a plan for all of our athletes to compete in their sports is a whole lot better place than where we were sitting on Tuesday."

Football is accustomed to being one of the first sports to begin the school year but now there will be two seasons before football begins. The coaching staff can watch and learn from other coaches about off the field concerns.

"There are some logistical things. What do bus rides look like in covid, are we still going to be in that. I can look and see cross country, they have a great team, a big team and had to go all the way to Mascoutah and here's what they looked like and the preparation that went into that and as coaches how do we share water, how do we do water without water bottles. I think there are a lot of logistic things that people are going to be able to figure out and reap the benefits by the time we go, we'll be the third season and be able to see how they manage those things."
