...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON CDT /1 PM EDT/ SATURDAY TO 7 PM
CDT /8 PM EDT/ TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values between 100 to 108 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western
Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

* WHEN...From noon CDT /1 PM EDT/ Saturday to 7 PM CDT /8 PM EDT/
Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The first prolonged stretch of heat and
humidity of the season will cause heat impacts to be greater than
normal.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Former Goreville coach and Hall-of-Famer Jerry Qualls died

(WSIL) -- Former Goreville Blackcat Coach and Illinois Basketball Coaches Assoc. Hall-of-Famer Jerry Qualls has died.

Goreville Superintendent Dr. Steve Webb, who was on Coach Qualls' first boys basketball Regional Championship team in 1987, said the district was devastated at the announcement.

Current Coach Todd Tripp was a member of Coach Qualls second Regional Championship team in 1993.

Coach Qualls coached at Gorham before going to Goreville.

As a baseball and basketball coach he won the first boys basketball regular conference season title, Conference Tournament title, and the first boys basketball IHSA Regional Championship in 1987. In all, Coach Qualls won three Conference Tournament Championships, five regular season titles and four Regional Championships as well as five Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament Championships.

Dr. Webb said Blackcat Nation will miss him dearly as he remained a faithful fan of Goreville sports.
